What's in a Name?

For several months I've been contemplating starting fresh. With a whole new blog that is! In a way, I feel as if Shoes and Jules limits me in what I can write about. I was thinking of something more general. Something fashion, style, and New York City related. On the other hand, I don't want to fall into the same general category as every other fashion/style blogger. I love my shoe clubs and the little niche I found to blog about, but I want to explore other items and experiences. Most of all, I want to share all of these great purchases and experiences with you.

Sole Sisters In the News!

"To say Robyn is obsessed with shoes would be an understatement."

My friend Robyn had the opportunity of being interviewed by ABC regarding her shoe obsession and JustFab membership! Check out the short video and let me know what you think.

Have YOU tried JustFabulous yet?

I've Been Awarded!

I'm excited to announce that I received my very first blog award! I received my award from my friend Chanda from Five Inches or HIGHER. Thank you Chanda!

The Liebster Award is given to blogs with less than 200 followers to help network and connect to more people.

Now it's my turn to pass it along to five others:

Work It! With Express

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Express for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

One of my go-to stores is Express for so many different reasons. Not only is their clothing affordable (not to mention constant sales and promo codes!), but Express carries a wide variety of styles. So no matter what the occasion, I know Express will have exactly what I need.

At my previous job I was able to dress casual for work every day. Now that I will soon be looking for a new job, I need to buy a "real" work wardrobe. More importantly, I need a suit to wear for future interviews. I need something that looks polished and professional but at the same time fits my budget. Which means I will be heading straight to Express.

The Shoe Doctor Pays a Visit

My friend Chee from The Shoe Doctor came to visit me in New York this weekend. I picked her up from Laguardia Airport on Saturday. When we arrived back at my house, we put on our favorite Sole Society shoes and snapped a bunch of photos.

Balenciaga City bag inspired Judith bag in Purple (sold out) from Shop Suey Boutique
Sole Society Lyssa Pumps in Plum
Sole Society Karmen Slingbacks in Red
Betseyville Bag

Later that evening we changed our outfits (and of course our shoes!) then headed to Manhattan for dinner.

ANOTHER Shoe Club!!?

I just heard some exciting info from my friend Erica... Rachel Bilson and her stylist, Nicole Chavez, have teamed up with Steve Madden to launch a new shoe club! ShoeMint will launch in late November, but you can sign up now for early access (get three friends to sign up and you receive $5 off your first purchase). Signing up with your e-mail address does not sign you up for the club, but keeps you in the loop by sending notifications and reminders about the upcoming launch.

via Shoemint

ShoeMint will be more expensive than the other shoe clubs - each pair of heels $79.99 a pop! I'm sure they will have exclusive items and such, but I will be expecting some really special styles for that price. Don't get me wrong, $79.99 isn't at all a crazy price for a pair of shoes, but with all of the other [lower priced] shoe clubs out there, it just seems kind of silly to me. The way I see it, why not just buy a pair of actual Steve Madden heels for that price?

How To Remove Links From or Resize Your Linked Bracelet Watch

I have a tiny wrist, so I was aware before ordering the Jules Watch from Send the Trend that it would need to be brought to a jeweler for resizing.

Little did I know, watch links are easily removable by anyone! Kaitlin from STT sent me instructions that called for a small hole punch and a pair of pliers. After reading through the directions, I quickly realized that this could be done a whole lot easier. With just a few modifications, I decided to give it a go.

I Love Chanel

Although I do love, want, and dream of Chanel bags, that isn't the kind of Chanel that I am referring to.

What I am referring to are my grey Chanel flats from Sole Society! Aren't they cute?

As you probably know - shoes, bags, and accessories have names (people names that is). About a month ago, a bunch of the girls and I were having a conversation about  shoes and other items that share our names. I mentioned that I've yet to see a shoe share any version of my name. Then something happened that made it seem as if these retailers were secretly members of our private groups and saw my post...

First came the Jules necklace from Belladazzle. This doesn't actually count because it was custom made for me and therefore, named after me. Thanks again Esther from Belladazzle! :)

Over at Shoedazzle, I came across a flat named Jules. Unfortunately, it wasn't very cute. Even if it was, I probably wouldn't have ordered anyway. Since I reopened my SD account a few months ago, I've only ordered two pairs of Converse and a jewelry box. One of the Converse were defective and the jewelry box was broken - I see that some things never change!

When September 1st rolled around and I logged on to Send the Trend, right there in my gallery was a beautiful watch named Jules. I was beyond excited. I immediately sent Joyce a text to let her know what I "found". We both ended up ordering it!

A New Direction

I apologize for the lack of posts lately. You would think that my current unemployed status would mean that I have more time and energy to blog, but unfortunately this has not been the case. Actually, it has been the exact opposite! Never in my life have I ever been so unmotivated and uninterested in anything and everything. Don't get worried about me or anything - it was all intentional.

When I was just 14 years old I started working. I've done everything - and I mean everything! Making cappuccino’s and espressos, scooping Italian ices, bartending, promotional work, manning a lotto machine and cash register, selling tickets at Yankee Stadium, and secretarial work are just a handful of the many hats I've worn. When I turned 27 years old this past July, I looked back and realized that I have never had more than one week off. If I quit a position it was because I already had something better lined up that I was starting immediately. I always had a job and therefore never had a break. Many times I've even worked two jobs. Then there were those times where I was working two jobs AND going to school. I won't lie to you and say it was easy because it certainly wasn't. I honestly think that pushing myself to always do so much has taken a serious toll on me. When I left my job in August, I was finally able to see this.

Is This Fashion?

Does anyone else find it kind of disrespectful of Nicki Minaj to show up at NYFW shows dressed like this?

Sparkly Shoes

A while back, JustFabulous brought us the Cassidy glitter pump in black and gold. I am not a fan of gold so without second guessing it, I went right for the black.

Both colors sold out very quickly. Those who did not purchase Cassidy hoped that JustFab would restock them. Unfortunately, it isn't very often that JustFab restocks items. The reason for this is because styles and trends are constantly changing and they try to offer new items each month based on these trends. Well guess what? Glitter shoes are a trend for Fall 2011 and Cassidy in gold and bronze popped up in this month's JustFab boutiques.

Like I said I'm not really a fan of gold, but since I can't seem to get around not wearing it (hardware on bags, jewelry, etc) I've been trying to add a little more gold into my life. So the other day I snagged a pair of the gold ones. I figure that if I don't, they will sell out and I will wish I had!

I've never really been a fan of glitter because I think that it often looks tacky. However there is something about pretty, sparkly things - we can't get enough of them!!

Below are a few pictures of my black ones.

Shoedazzle Groupon for $19 - Available Through 9/4 at 11:59pm

Didn't have enough time to purchase the last Groupon deal for a $19 Shoedazzle credit? Well now there is a new one available in another city! You do not need to live in the selected city to purchase this deal.

photo via Groupon
On top of heels, flats, handbags, and jewelry now Shoedazzle has a casual line. The casual line consists of adorable sneakers (most importantly Converse brand). Every item at SD is normally $39.95, but with this deal you can order any item on their site for just $19. This price includes shipping!

If you haven't yet tried this shoe club, this Groupon deal is a great way to test out the shoe club. You won't beat this price! You need a Shoedazzle account to use this deal after you purchase it, so if you haven't yet signed up for SD you can do so here.

How to purchase and use your Groupon: You pay $19 to Groupon and they will then e-mail you a code. You must be a first time Shoedazzle buyer to use the code, if you have already purchased from SD it will not work. The code you receive must be entered in your Shoedazzle account: You can then go ahead and select the item you want to purchase and add it to your cart. Once this item is in your cart you will proceed to normal checkout. At checkout there will be an option to "apply gift card" - click that and your order should adjust to $0 and then you can place your order. That's it!

Jewels for Jules

I love handmade jewelry - it's so unique! So I was excited when my friend Esther launched her handmade/fashion jewelry business. Esther has been designing jewelry for the past seven years. Her love for jewelry started at Girl Scouts when she was just 10 years old, where she made her first pair of earrings. She knew right then and there that designing jewelry was something she wanted to do. This led her to making jewelry and then the launch of Belladazzle.

Belladazzle offers a variety jewelry styles including silver, beaded, wire wrap, and wire coil. There are simple pieces such as long chain necklaces with a single stone or more detailed pieces that have swarovski crystals, pearls, and charms incorporated into them. Check out the handmade jewelry album on BD's Facebook page to see some of the beautiful (and very affordable) necklaces, bracelets, and earrings she has available.

The great thing about Belladazzle is the fact that you can have nearly anything designed for you. If you know exactly what you are looking for, she can create it! If you don't have specifics in mind and just have some basic ideas, you can let her know and she will design something based off of your preferences. I told Esther that I wanted a necklace - something that I could dress up or down, that had a somewhat long chain, wasn't a huge statement piece, that was simple yet eye catching. What did she come up with?...

>> The Jules Necklace <<
I couldn't have asked for a more perfect piece of jewelry. I love how it is so simple yet the swarovski crystal heart and beads make it so elegant and stunning - just like I had requested. This necklace can be worn with a nice dress or even very casual with a basic v-neck t-shirt. I have already worn it several times since receiving it so I see that the Jules Necklace may quickly become an everyday accessory!

Do you love it as much as I do? I really think it is just perfect for me!

It isn't just jewelry at Belladazzle, but handbags as well. Esther has a knack for finding designer inspired handbags that she can offer to us at affordable prices. Many of the item listings actually include a picture of a celebrity with the designer bag, so you can see it alongside the affordable version! Looking for a cheaper version of a particular bag? Let her know and she will try to find one for you! I will be purchasing a handbag from her this week and will report back once I receive it.

I suggest taking a few minutes to check out Belladazzle. You will be sure to find something that you love! ...and remember: If you don't see what you are looking for, just ask. Esther will be more than happy to do her best to make or find exactly what you are looking for!

Help Me Choose

Ok Ladies (and Gents?), I need your help. Last month I ordered the Moya flats from Sole Society. Two girls on the SS Facebook page told me that their Moya's were tight on them and that I should order a half size up. I did this, but when I received them they were too big. I sent them back with the intention of using my credit for another pair of Moya in my regular size.

Moya in blush (also comes in black) - I absolutely LOVE the metallic toe caps! I just don't see myself wearing them much in the fall and winter.

Unfortunately, now it is August and there are several other pairs I am interested in. What should I get? Should I be practical, since I don't have a job, and order the Moya flats? Or should I order Charlotte in black, Virginia in grey, or Catherine in lace with the intent of wearing them when I go out? - Which won't be very often.

Charlotte in black (also comes in taupe and red) - I don't own any similar heels similar to these. There is something about the caged design that I really like. They sort of remind me of a pair of Miu Miu lattice pumps that I have been pining over!
Virginia in grey (also comes in cobalt blue) - These are very pretty. On top of that, real suede for $49.95? Yes please!
Catherine in lace (also comes in leopard and glitter) - Although I am not a fan of pointy shoes, pointy is in for fall. What I really about them is that the lace is so feminine and pretty!

Ordering all of them is not an option right now. I only have one credit and can therefore only order one pair. What to do? Opinions please!?

Current Obsession - Send the Trend

My good friend Joyce recently made numerous purchases from Send the Trend. I love all of the items she chose. I've been a member for quite some time, but never made any purchases until last night. I ordered the Madeline Gray Ombre Scarf and the Electra Leather Bracelet. Both of these pieces will work well with my fall wardrobe. I will be sure to take photos and share them with you as soon as I receive the items. Read on to find out how you can score a buy one get one free deal from Send the Trend!

Both Joyce and I have Style Pages on Send the Trend. These pages contain our favorite items. It is like having our own personal accessories store that each of you can shop from!

You can help us out by nominating each of our pages. Please click the thumbnails below to be taken to our separate pages. Once you are on the page, you will see a "nominate me" button next to our style descriptions. By clicking that button you will cast your vote to keep us on the top stylist list (you can nominate more than one person).

Haven't tried Send the Trend? Groupon is currently offering a Send the Trend deal (available to new members only) where you pay Groupon $29 and you will receive a $60 promo code for Send the Trend. This translates to purchasing two items for the price of one!

Offer Expires August 14, 2011 at 11:59PM PST

Send the Trend is located in NYC, which means you won't wait long for my review. I should have the items in just a few days, so be sure to check back!

I Need These Booties!

Please help me get my Kerries!

When Sole Society launched in March they had an amazing pair of booties available in black and tan. Unfortunately at the time I wasn't interested in purchasing booties. The Kerries in tan sold out almost immediately. I was extremely upset about it.

To my surprise, the other day my friend Chee from The Shoe Doctor let me know that the Kerries are back in stock! Exciting - right!? I planned on ordering them earlier this week with one of my work incentive program credits. If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook then you probably know that I lost my job this week, which means I won't be ordering these shoes with a work credit (or ordering any shoes at all for that matter).

Since Chee and I share the same shoe size and she owns these gorgeous booties, she made a deal with me. If I help her gain votes and win a contest that she entered (it ends tonight, 8/5 at midnight PST), she will send me her brand new Kerries!

This is where you come in. I am practically begging you to click this link for her contest entry and then click the like button to cast your vote. That's it! There is no signing up, no captcha to enter, nothing more - just two seconds of your time!

I really appreciate your votes! It means a lot to me, especially during this tough time in my life.

Shoedazzle Groupon for $19 - Available Through 8/1 at Midnight!

See below for instructions for purchasing and using this Groupon

images via Groupon

This Shoedazzle Groupon can also be used towards the purchase of shoes from the current BOGO event. Just in case you are behind the times and don't know what BOGO means - it stands for buy one get one.. free that is! Meaning, if you purchase this Groupon deal you can actually get each pair for just $9.50 if you select from the items offered in the event. Talk about a deal, right?

Most of you know that Shoedazzle isn't one of my favorite places to buy from, but for $19 and $9.50 you really can't go wrong. Besides the prices, another plus is that they offer free shipping as well as free exchanges.

On top of heels, flats, jewelry, and handbags, Shoedazzle also has a casual line that includes a bunch of adorable Converse sneakers (as well as other sneakers). I recently purchased two pairs of Converse from SD and will be doing a review on them soon. Most of the Converse are offered in the BOGO event. Shoedazzle also has a Dazzle Deal every Tuesday and Thursday featuring items such as flat irons, luggage, clothing, and many other items - all for just $39.95.

Instructions for purchasing and using your Groupon:
  • Purchase Your Groupon
Head over to Groupon (if you aren't yet a member you can sign up here) and purchase the SD Groupon for just $19. You will be provided with a code to use on Shoedazzle's website.
  • Sign Up for Shoedazzle
You must be a new member of Shoedazzle. If you sign up using my link you will receive 20% off your first purchase (the Groupon doesn't count as a purchase from SD, so the 20% will technically go towards your second order).
You are required to take a short quiz to determine your "style profile".
  • Browse and Find Items
Within 24hrs Shoedazzle will provide you with a showroom filled with items they think you will be interested in. If you don't want to wait for your showroom you can find an item you like a few different ways.
    1) Connecting your Facebook account to your Shoedazzle account. You will be able to view showrooms of any Facebook friends that are SD members.
    2) Look through the fan photos on Facebook - there are thousands of real pictures to browse through.
    3) If you know the name of an item you can use a direct link >> Remove the words "Insert Shoe Name" and replace it with the name of the item.
  • Check Out and Apply your Groupon CodeAdd the item you want to purchase to your cart and checkout as you normally would. There will be an option to "apply gift code". Enter the code you received from Groupon in the box and apply it. On the same screen there will be a drop down box where you can select credits to apply. Select one credit and apply. Once you do that it will adjust to $0 and you can place your order.
    * A few ladies, including myself, received error messages when applying gift codes. If this happens to you, simply click the drop down menu where it says to apply credits. The credit will actually be in there and available to apply.
If you have any questions feel free to comment or e-mail me and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

I created a new page on this blog dedicated strictly to sales and deals. I plan on posting most of the deals I share on the new page, but people have been waiting for this one so I wanted to dedicate a post to it to ensure that it didn't get missed. So be sure to check out the new page and check back often. I just added some new sales and deals such as a Send the Trend Groupon and some others.
